Stay Grounded

We're in the middle of a series of Mindfulness tips and techniques to help you stay focused in the present moment.

Practising Mindfulness makes you more productive, and more relaxed, which means you achieve more with less effort.
This week's tip is around staying grounded and present in your body in situations where you're essentially fairly passive. For example when you're watching this video or reading this blog, when you're talking on the phone, perhaps when you're listening to a client, making a presentation or listening to a presentation.

We start with the feet, and you need your weight evenly distributed, so when you're standing, check that you're standing evenly on both feet, not leaning to one side or the other.

If you're sitting, make sure both sitting bones are connected with the chair and that your weight is even between them.

Take a deep breath into the abdomen and allow your spine straighten. Now relax your shoulders, relax your jaw and breathe slowly and gently into the abdomen, then bring your awareness down into your feet.

Keep your awareness there. Staying aware of your feet will help keep you present in your body, in the moment, present to whatever it is that you are doing.

So, that's this week's tip. Stay grounded. The more present you are, the more you will enjoy life.

I look forward to seeing you next week.
